"I'm very positive about the future of GIS. It's the right technology at the right time. When I think of all the major problems that we face throughout the world today—overpopulation, food shortages, reduced agricultural production, adverse climate change, poverty—these are all quintessentially geographic problems. These problems are all concerned with the human relationship to the land, and this is where GIS can make its biggest contribution. GIS is the technology of our times and is uniquely suited to assist in solving the problems that we face."

-Dr. Roger F. Tomilson, Father of GIS

GIS Support for the World’s Largest Airport

Taking the support of  WebGIS, the GIS professionals in Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in Georgia serve passengers with utmost operational efficiency and customer service. The GIS staff  uses the facilities  of Collector for ArcGIS, Operations Dashboard, Web AppBuilder, ArcGIS Pro, and Explorer for ArcGIS to support the work of maintenance workers, supervisors, engineering staff, general managers, inspectors, contractors, and passengers. ArcGIS capabilities such as 3D and spatial analysis enable them to deliver actionable and trusted results. Using the 3D capabilities in ArcGIS to manage tree trimming at the airfield helped the airport earn a perfect score on their most recent FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) safety inspection.
“Web GIS has transformed our team from map makers to solution providers, allowing us to be agile, responsive, meeting the needs of a 24/7 workforce,” said David Wright, the airport’s GIS manager.
