"I'm very positive about the future of GIS. It's the right technology at the right time. When I think of all the major problems that we face throughout the world today—overpopulation, food shortages, reduced agricultural production, adverse climate change, poverty—these are all quintessentially geographic problems. These problems are all concerned with the human relationship to the land, and this is where GIS can make its biggest contribution. GIS is the technology of our times and is uniquely suited to assist in solving the problems that we face."

-Dr. Roger F. Tomilson, Father of GIS

Free access to ArcGIS platform and learning resources

ESRI offers free access to ArcGIS platform and its learning resources through Learn ArcGIS.

  •  Free access for one year to software, lessons, and a community of learners
  • Access to ArcGIS Online and over 20 apps including ArcGIS Pro
  • Provides  a library of lessons related to spatial analysis, data science, coding, and storytelling with maps

"Students in fields such as data science, public health, business, and journalism know the value GIS brings to their work yet often lack access to software and training,". "This program provides these motivated students who can't access ArcGIS through their institution with a way to learn independently and acquire additional skills that expand their career options in the digital economy." said Jack Dangermond, Esri founder and president.
